What’s your excuse?
Life… Man, life is busy, and stressful, and exhausting, and thrilling, and (insert adjective of choice). However, we only get one. The sad truth is that most people take better care of their cars, valuables, homes, and others than they do of themselves. Your body, both mentally and physically, as far as we know, is the only one you get. You get one shot at it. So, whether you’re deep into your health journey or just starting, keep reading and let’s find out what’s truly holding you back with a real-life experience that maybe you can relate to.
You have heard the sayings:
-“Abs aren’t made in the gym, they’re made in the kitchen.”
-“You have to eat bad to have a bad body.”
-“90% of health is what you eat.”
-“Your gut is your second brain.”
All of these are confirmed 100% true. However, the mental aspect of getting there is what I find people struggle with the most. We lack discipline, and over the years I’ve realized that we are creatures seeking dopamine or a reward. You can get up and go to work every day because you get a paycheck; you can make time to socialize with your friends because it’s an unwind time and it’s fun; you carve out that vacation time from work because you deserve it. There is a bonus or a prize, a simple give and take, to most aspects of our lives that do not lead to negative side effects. When it comes to food, however, that cookie, the pizza, the alcohol, fast food, you name it; although it is all delicious, that small, minuscule, microscopic dopamine hit you get can lead to some serious issues that build over time.
I have said this before: health is BORING. Same foods, same beverages, same routines, same schedules. We need to learn to embrace that, and not just until you hit that goal weight. This lifestyle is directly correlated to your longevity. I hope that your parents are still around, and if they are, look at the life they currently live. Is that what you want for yourself?
In October of 2025, I started some nutrition work with a husband and wife who were both ready to make a change. The husband had been dedicated to the gym for quite a few years; the wife had bounced back and forth a bit while building the family. Now, with three kids at home, high-powered jobs, and a lack of routine, they were both in a rut and ready to take back their health.
Six months later, they have lost a combined 56 lbs. AMAZING! Throughout this journey, I found myself as their guide: simply giving and taking macros, holding them accountable, and pushing them if they needed. Great success story, right? Yes. However, the thing I take away most from them is their ability to stay disciplined and to give up the excuses. Buckle down and execute. They have EVERY excuse at their disposal and, trust me, I have heard them all: work is crazy, sleep is tough, the kids' schedules are crazy, we can’t make time for the gym, I forgot to eat, you name it. Their biggest success was the ability to simply get the job done. Preparation was key; they brought their food to work each day, stuck to the diet, and there you have it: 50+ lbs down. Yes, training is important, and cardio is important, but speaking to the quotes from above, nothing beats your nutrition. I decided to highlight them because I know you can relate. I know your life is just as busy, and I know you’re sick of the failures. So let's start here:
There are two variables that I teach clients that are completely in our control: what goes in your mouth and how many calories you expend daily. No one force-feeds you, and in the same breath, no one is going to make you get your steps in. So, that’s 100% on you to decide to do it properly. Seek guidance and an accountability partner; you will not regret it.
So, if you are done with “dieting” and ready to learn a lifestyle, let’s go. I will leave you with this thought: What’s your excuse? Whatever it is, it’s not worth your health. Get comfortable being uncomfortable and let’s get healthy.

Much love,
